Take care with what you share online. Personal information, like your job title, date of birth, address or travel details can be used by cybercriminals for spear phishing and identity theft.

Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know. This can make you vulnerable to cybercriminals.

CHECK

Check your social network’s privacy policy regularly.

Check your social network’s security settings to control how and who you share information with, including search engines and apps.

Beware of social media advertisements linking to fake online sites – check the URL and online store is legitimate.

Check scamwatch.gov.au for advice on scams circulating on social media.

CONNECT

Use strong passwords to connect to social media accounts.

Use unique passwords for different accounts.
